I spent the weekend in Ridgeland, MS just north of Jackson. I stayed in a hotel near a lake and walked each morning both for exercise and meditation. I took some video while walking. This morning I wrote a haiku and created a video using Canva.
Today is the longest day…summer solstice. Think about what this day means to you. Add your own small poem in the comments. Please click over to this post about my personal fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of my mother’s 87th birthday.

So peaceful, Margaret. How nice to have taken that walk.
Solstice Haiku
day stretches to hold
our hopes a little longer
like the heron’s wing
@draft, Patricia J. Franz
What an uplift, Patricia! Have a beautiful day!
Hold, hope, heron make a beautiful trinity in this haiku.
Holding hope a little longer- what a beautiful thought.
Patricia: stretches – hopes / I can see the day of warmth filled with calmness. Our Summer Solstice took a different turn. (Poetry Friday on Summer Solstice)
Margaret, your video is so serene and calming! Hope you have a beautiful day!
greeting summer’s light
savoring the longest day
strawberries and cream
draft, Jane Heitman Healy
I love where you took this, Jane: summer, savor, strawberries!
You captured summer with light and strawberries.
Yes for the strawberries and cream!
Jane, I am savoring the beginning of summer-love the addition of favorite summer items.
Thank you for this gift, Margaret. Your words and images are lovely, but the music grabbed me first. We said a final goodbye to our old, sweet dog yesterday, so this is for Cyrus.
music stirs my soul
on this first long day without you
remembering
Oh Rose! Am sending big hugs for you — never never easy to say goodbye to our pups.
Oh I’m so sorry. My dog is almost 16, so I know we don’t have much time left. I’m glad I offered some comfort.
So sorry, Rose. This loss makes your long day all the longer. ❤
Rose, without you sends such a bittersweet message. Remember the joy your Cyrus gave you.
Beautiful Margaret. Filled with peace.
Margaret, your video and words are so calming. May peace continue to light your life and your poetic words. My Poetry Friday post is on the Summer Solstice. The haiku reads:
nature flies in with
swishing torrents of raindrops
summer solstice gift
