Ramona Behnke is hosting the Spiritual Journey Thursday posts today at her blog, Pleasures from the Page. She asked us to write about “A Glad Heart.”
Open-hearted gladness
Margaret Simon, draft
comes after illness,
where once was a window–
blinds pulled up
enough to see the white egret
fly over water, stand and dip, stand and dip.
A morning dance, or mourning dance
for me, listless and weak?
Strength in wings of white,
angel of life or death.
Gladness through the window
entered my prayer,
beckoning me to fight
for life, for flight.
To look to the air
through my despair
finding the light
of gratitude.

Beautiful, Margaret, as is the photo. May you keep gaining strength and restored health.
Lovely poem, Margaret. I wish you continued healing. May the light of gratitude and hope shine on you.
What a wonderful poem! So grateful these wings of white brought gladness through your window. Wishing you continued strength and good
health and hoping your return to school has been good!
Thanks. I’m working hard but I’m doing well keeping up. Energy restored.
Margaret, your post shares the power of believing in the Lord even when darkness creeps into our souls. “Gladness through the window/entered my prayer.” Your journey has been long but hope is here now. Prayers continue. 3noy your weekend.
That space between life and death…it’s so thin it could be either. You’ve been in a thin space…I’m glad you are now feeling that wideness of out of doors again. Wishing you lots and lots and lots more. I like how your poem draft explores…we never know in the moment…but we can wonder.
