Porch sitting
alone or with family
refreshes a tired mind.Listen to the trickle of water
from the fountain,
the calls of fishermen in the distance.Turtles on the bank
sunbathe, while Pop
tells us they are gathering oxygen.I gather oxygen here, too,
and find the questions of
life easier to bear.

SOL16: #29 Porch Sitting
March 29, 2016 by margaretsmn
I can hardly wait to do some porch sitting myself, but right now I would have to do it wearing a heavy coat. Sitting with the fresh air does have a way of making life’s questions easier to answer.

Gathering Oxygen sounds so good. Porch living is my kind of life.
How beautiful! The whole idea of a porch makes me breathe easier.
I am envious of that beautiful place, Margaret; taking in oxygen sounds like just the thing to make life perfect!
I love this poem. Through your word choice I could sense the porch, feel the warmth and hear the sounds.
Life is better on the porch!
The porch is an inviting place to sit and reflect on life. It looks like spring in Louisiana is a beautiful sight as well. Your poem lures me in with its sounds and the comparison of the animals oxygen with renewal of breath, Margaret.
What a view! Your words entice me to join you on the porch and set a spell.
There are places like this, right? And thank goodness for them!
Gathering oxygen on the porch…don’t you think that is how heaven will be? Love the poem, love the images.
We all need a place to “gather oxygen,” don’t we? This is so beautiful, Margaret. I love those sunbathing turtles and your beautiful girl!
