Thursday, Sept. 21st was International Peace Day. I don’t think I would have known this without the intentional movement by Amy Ludwig VanDerwater. Her efforts to promote Peace Day resulted in this padlet of wonderful resources.
I wish I could’ve taught Peace Day all week, but I reserved it for Thursday. My students explored peace poems, made peace heart maps, and wrote poems of their own. We had a wonderful celebration of peace.

Over at Today’s Little Ditty, Carole Boston Weatherford created a challenge to write an abecedarian poem. I wrote one for peace and added it to Michelle’s padlet here.

What a post full of love! Jacob sowing peace across the world and the peace of a cat’s purr from Madison make my heart happy. I agree that the wealth of peace resources is wonderful. I aim to be more purposeful next year.
I love your abecedarian poem….it’s fun to have gotten to know you a bit and see just how YOU this is with dancing. You continuously inspire.
Oh Jacob’s seeds and Madison’s wings and your Zydeco! 🙂 What important work you are doing, Margaret. Thank you for sharing it with us. xo
Hello Margaret! I attribute this feeling of peace descending upon me to your students’ “On the Wings of a Butterfly” & “Peace and Harmony,” plus your ABCDarian twirl. Appreciations.
Your post is beaming with Peace and its energy Margaret! I can see why you would have enjoyed teaching Peace all week, your students Peace poems are sensitive, introspective, and lyrical, what treasures they’ve created! In your poem I feel/hear the zydeco music and the movement of the dance steps- “Unified

Keep dancing and singing and one day peace will come.
I love those adorable heart poems. Especially the images of the seed and the purring cat. Great job on the abecedarian, too. Favorite word: Zydeco. Love it.
Such wonderful peace poems–and thanks for bringing us to the bayou with your zydeco two-step!
What a wonderful collection of poems. Congratulations to your student writers – and their teacher. Such beautiful hearts. And your abecedarian! It’s such fun to see how they all vary, yet all stand (or in this case, dance) alone.
Is there anything more heartwarming than words of peace from a child’s pencil? What I love most about your poem, Margaret, is that I know how much dancing means to you. When I read your poem and visualize you on the dance floor, I know that peace is possible.
“Peace to come”
“Peace is our
Quest”
“I am a seed”
Amen.
Once more…the teacher leads by example. You bring peace to these children’s lives through your words. Peace to you. x
Margaret, I enjoyed backtracking to your post that I missed reading. All flowed with peace.
