Not much happened this week.
A layer of ice.
Schools closed.
I stoked the fire.
Carefully added a log or two.
Then let it go out.
Crochet needle looped and looped
a neck warmer for a friend,
prayers for an injured boy.
Ukulele picking.
Hallelujah
From G to E-minor
cramped and challenged
this weak left hand.
Read a book
about Love,
And the face staring back
in the bathroom mirror–
this, too, is love.*
A book about a Fall,
I didn’t look up
I didn’t look down
I just kept on climbing
one step at a time.*
Cooked and cared for
my mother-in-law
recovering from surgery.
“I’m fine,” she insisted.
She’s fine, I know.
Wrote a poem
with only a few words,
lifted it up like a paper airplane,
and sent it out into the world.

Unexpected free time is precious. I am glad you had time to read and write.
I’ve found that these rare days are some of my favorite days! I relish the quiet, daily life
I know once the busyness of next week kicks in, I am going to miss these quiet ones.
Margaret, your words did indeed lift up like a paper airplane. You sent it out into the world and I caught them. Now I shall savor your image poem and the delicacy of the words and photo. Ice in Louisiana? I always think of your locale as full of warmth.
That is why it shocked us into hibernation. The low on Tuesday was 19 degrees. Today it’s 65. Ups and downs…
Thanks for catching my paper poem airplane.
There is something about winter that I love. Allowing time for all of your favorite activities….I’ve always wondering about knitting….
I crochet. I haven’t learned how to knit with any efficiency. A friend of mine gave me a quick cowl pattern that only uses one skein of yarn. Makes me feel like I can get something finished.
Margaret, I love this–
“Wrote a poem
with only a few words,
lifted it up like a paper airplane,
and sent it out into the world.”
Your beautiful photo and 15 words or less is the Louisiana I picture you in, Margaret. The ice and cold of last week will soon be a distant memory! But 5 days to be home, to take care of Minga, to play ukelele, to snuggle with Charlie, and relax will also be something you will remember fondly.
It sounds like a lovely “slow” week, full of wonderful things, Margaret. I love that you crafted a poem about it!
It’s not often that you have time for so many leisurely activities. Glad you had this time to read, cook, crochet, care, play your ukulele and write. Love the poem and your image too! How many days were you out of school?
We ended up with the whole week off. After the ice there were water issues.
Sounds like a lovely week. Yay for unexpected time.
Beautiful. It makes me want to slow down, too.
Hugs,
Ruth
