Thank you to Two Writing Teachers for creating an amazing community of writers and a safe, welcoming space to write and share.
With an open schedule on Monday, I decided to try to make my own instructional video from my book Bayou Song. I recorded it on my back deck with the Bayou Teche in the background. It wasn’t terrible, so I posted it. (I need to figure out where to look.)
My students are set up on Kidblogs, so I posted the video there and had a few poetic responses. With so many students out of school, I hope more will join in and write poems. Feel free to share.

Beautiful poems!
I love this, Margaret! What a great way to connect with your students. Thanks for sharing.
Margaret! It’s so wonderful to see you again! Thank you for joining us and contributing this fabulous poetic form. I plan to try this for my slice tomorrow!
Lovely poem of yours, Margaret.

Heart-touching response.
Love how you set this up. As the days go on, I’m sure you will find more creative ways to connect with your students.
Great lesson, and great setting to teach it! Your poem is so descriptive; I feel like I’m sitting on your back porch, watching the baby egrets with you in the early morning.
I love this so much! I have added it to my resource page for my parents. And it gives me something to try in my notebook today.
This is so good. What a great video presentation and challenge. So enjoyed the poems of those children who responded, they are really meaningful. You’re such a natural at this!
Good idea to create a video presentation, Margaret. Of course, you have student samples to share with us. Madison has a good line: “not-quite-all-knowing,” I hope many teachers will offer this activity to their students via remote learning.
Beautifully done, Margaret! and such a fun activity for kids. And grown-ups…

Love this response. I think we have a lot in common.
Love the opportunity to hear the sounds of the bayou with you.
Oh – I’m beginning to recognize AJ and Madison’s styles. I’m not at all surprised (and actually quite tickled to see) that Madison is “random fact blurting.” Too cute. And I had to make a video recently for the course I’m taking – same problem: couldn’t figure out quite where to look. Whatever; we’ll get better!

Thank you for this writing idea! Definitely one I can use with students.
Thank you for modeling and sharing.
I’ll have to give this format a whirl.
Let me know if you do. I’d love to read your response.
I just posted my slice. Thanks to you, I didn’t struggle today with what or how to write. Thank you SO much for the inspiration.
