Ode to My Mask
Months and months
virus spreading
mouth to mouth.
We wear our love
on a mask.
Ads on Facebook
led me to a Vera Bradley style,
flowers of peach
on a teal green background.
Flowers light up my face
like rouge on my cheeks
or lipstick on my lips.I smile beneath this garden.
Can you see it in my eyes?
My love
My faith
My hopeMy flowers are a bouquet for you
on a Hallmark greeting card.
I breathe in their sweet perfume.Let’s take a walk outside
Margaret Simon, draft
and smile with our eyes.
I love this, Margaret! I also have a few Vera masks.

I’m so happy you are joining us! This line: “I smile beneath the garden” gave me pause. What a lovely image you created.
Here’s a fun fact: I live within 30 minutes of the Vera Bradley offices. 🙂
Lovely to read your writing this morning.
Xo,
Ruth
Margaret, so lovely to read your ode. Your mask makes me smile! Maybe it’s time for me to check out the Vera Bradley masks.
What a strange new world we live in! The eyes say it all. A fashionable way to stay safe. 🙂
Your smile and your words made me smile and breathe a little easier! Thanks!!
So pretty!
The mask is beautiful, as is your verse and your eyes, for your faith, hope, and love shine in all.
“Smile with our eyes”–so beautiful!
One of the worries of people with wearing masks has been whether smiles would be visible. They are, aren’t they, in the eyes? I can see your smile and appreciate it together with the poem.
