I’m a joiner and whether or not it’s good for me, I tend to join things at the beginning of the year. For example, this morning I will go out in the cold to an outdoor yoga class. I also like to support friends who are trying new (or old) initiatives. Leigh Anne Eck has taken on the round up originated by Carrie Gelson of Must Read posts. The idea is we make a list of books we didn’t get to in 2020, and commit to reading them in 2021. I recently took a quiz on The Four Tendencies and discovered (or rather, affirmed) I was an Obliger, so having a group to report back to may give me motivation to get it done.
I walked around my house collecting books I had placed here and there, the bedside table, my school backpack, the study, and placed them in a pile. I have a reason for each book in the stack, a reason to read and a reason I haven’t read them. I’ll keep them close. Wish me luck.
What an enticing stack of books! I love this idea, but I’m scared to commit to anything else right now. My bedside TBR pile is currently threatening me with a head injury. Also, I was just thinking that I really need to dig deeper into middle grade reading. Over break I’ve read and finished several books, but somehow managed to begin 5 or 6 other books that I’m still plugging away at! I do have to put a plug in for “The Nightingale.” –Here’s a blog post I wrote about reading it: https://nixthecomfortzone.com/2016/03/04/book-magic/
Happy reading!
Thanks for sharing your stack of books! And link to Must Read Books. I’m a big fan of Kate DiCammilo, might have to check “The Magician’s Elephant” out!
What a great practice. Quite a few of your reads are ones I have wanted to read. Tiem to check out a few piles of books that have collected around my house!
Hope you get through all these books this year! I liked the Nightingale. I have one of her books on my must read list, too – she has a new one coming out next month.
I’ve read a few of these, Margaret, like Hello Universe, a wonderful read, but some are still on a long list & maybe someday I will find time for them, too. It’s fun to see you here! Happy Reading!
I like your process. I have sometimes included several books that aren’t even in our ILL libraries so I’ve needed to track them down to read them. You have them ready and handy. I think I will try that next time. 🙂
Margaret! Love seeing your book pile! I’ve read the Magician’s Elephant and The Honest Truth (DiCamillo and Gemeinhart are two of my favorite children’s authors!) and Hello, Universe and Nightingale – you’ll love both of them! I’ve also read George. Loved! The other two are new to me. Happy reading! I’d love to connect more to the blogging world and YOU again this year!
Holly! I’ve missed you. I read your MustRead post but didn’t have a chance to comment. I’d love to reconnect.
You sure have some fabulous books in your stack here. The four I’ve read were winners!
I loved The Honest Truth! But I think I have loved everything that Gemeinhart writes! I have heard so many talk about The Nightingale, but I just don’t read much adult lit anymore. But this is one I would certainly like to get to. Thanks for being a joiner!
