For our Advent time-of-waiting spiritual journey posts this month, Chris chose the topic of “waiting…with a side of hope.”
Waiting is not easy. It means patience, looking inward… finding peace.
My calendar suggests quite the opposite.
It says go here, do this, buy that.
Hurry up!
So I look to the stars and wonder
What are they waiting for?
The light we see is how old? days? months? years?
Yet it comes anyway.
Christmas will come anyway.
Why worry?
When his mother asked what he wanted Santa to bring him,
he pointed to the Christmas tree
and said, “That funny clown up there!”
Ah, to see waiting through the eyes of a toddler
dancing through each day in wonder.
Let’s change our mantra from “I can’t wait”
to “I Can Wait!”
Waiting brings light and hope and love
wrapped in a timeless gift.
I love it, Margaret. I used to teach 4-year-olds and we created gifts like the one above. Such sweetness and naivete, it melts the heart. Thank you for changing the mantra. We can wait. And even now, I believe God is doing amazing things.
“To see waiting through the eyes of a toddler, dancing through each day in wonder” – oh, to recapture that great sense of awe! Your reflections themselves invite us to experience it: wondering what the stars are waiting for, how old the light is. We are enveloped in glories we don’t even realize. And ones we do ,,, like the artistry of precious Leo.
Margaret, “We can wait is a powerful message that you present. I love seeing life through the eyes of a child. Now you have several little ones to encourage them to wait with hope. The gift you share is a timeless treasure just as your faith is. Thank you for sharing your perspective and Leo’s artistry. May blessings fill your household this month.
Thanks for reminding us that waiting brings light and hope and love. And Leo’s gift? He’s given me an idea for something to create with the boys tomorrow.

Thank you for this beautiful post. I so enjoy the insights and wisdom that my friends who are grandparents gain in life. I had the hardest time finding words for a post. Finally, I did for Christmas Eve.
