Today is my birthday. I am turning the age of the year I was born. Can you do the math? I have to admit I am not a fan of birthdays. Being born in August has never appealed to me. It’s always hot and usually rainy. But with daily rain comes daily rainbows. Over the last few days I’ve seen a few big ones. I stop my car and get out to take a picture. I wish the pictures could show the colors and size, but you’ll have to just imagine it.

My Heart Leaps Up
William Wordsworth – 1770-1850
My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

Happy Birthday, Margaret – and wishes for an August of rainbows! Thank you for sharing Wordsworth’s poem; “the child is father of the man” is a favorite line – especially now. And thank you for hosting!

How wonderful that you see rainbows so frequently. We don’t have a good vantage from our house, so in likely weather, it’s not unusual for us to dash out to the car and drive down to the river to try to catch sight of a rainbow. More often than not, we do and our hearts always leap. Thanks for sharing the Wordsworth poem and Patricia’s fabulous swap poem! Happy Birthday and thanks for hosting.

Beautiful photos, Margaret – and two beautiful poems to go with them! Happy birthday, too, and thanks for hosting!
Margaret, happy birthday! I did do the math, and discovered that you and my younger brother are the same age. I hope you have a great day. The rainbow pictures are beautiful even in the images, so we can imagine them being even bolder and more beautiful. Fun gift from Linda, sistar, indeed! And Patricia’s poem is fun, but summer didn’t listen to her, did it? It doesn’t stay!
Thanks for every rainbow picture, and the beautiful poems, Margaret. Be sure to see my quote in my new header! Happy Birthday! Hope it’s been a lovely day for you! Thanks for hosting, too!
Margaret, Happy Birthday again and thank you for hosting Poetry Friday. Your post is full of poetic goodness: nature photos, rainbows, William Wordsworth poem, a beautiful collage birthday card, and a swap from Patricia Franz. It was delightful to read.( I had tremendous problems with internet connections tonight so I hope I will be able to connect with the community better than struggling like I did tonight.)
Happy Birthday, Margaret! Thanks for giving us the gift of your poetry all year long (and Wordsworth’s and Patricia’s today – along with fellow birthday girl, Linda’s artistic talent). 🙂

Happy birthday! Beautiful pictures of the sky!!
Margaret, I’m so glad August brought the world YOU. Thanks for all you give. You are a marvel! xo
Happy birthday, Margaret! I can do the math and you are the same age as my husband which means you are as young as you want to be, though I think “young” is over-rated. May your birthday be filled with many more vibrant rainbows.:)
Happy Birthday, Margaret—with thanks for all the constant inspiration you provide here!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Dear Margaret, and enjoy all the rainbow colors and the magical ones in between. Thanks for sharing Linda and Patricia’s creative gifts (as well as the poem by our friend William). Thank you for hosting, too, and for always bringing us pots of poetry gold… XO
Happy Birthday, Margaret! Love your birthday rainbows. May you have many more!
Margaret, Happy Birthday! I wish you a rainbow-colored month. I have enjoyed reading the beautiful poems, seeing your great rainbow photos, and Linda’s excellent artwork. Thank you for these treats, and for always sharing your inspiration and joy. 🙂
Happy Belated Birthday, Margaret! I’m not far behind you! Wishing you a year of rainbows, ahead!
