All this week we have been hosting an artist from north Georgia. When we volunteered to host, we had no idea who would be coming. There’s always a risk. This morning “our artist” Keith Burgess brought me flowers from the Farmer’s Market. You can always win my heart with flowers.
Keith has been painting for the Shadows on the Teche Plein Air Art Competition. It’s a juried competition which means a working, teaching artist is chosen as judge and he/ she chooses who can come and compete. This year was Keith’s first year to compete. He has said to me all week that he was just honored to be selected. He didn’t expect any awards.

Keith painting in our driveway.
Last night at the awards ceremony, Keith won the Parish President’s Choice Award for a painting he did on our dock of the Bayou Teche. He was over-the-moon excited. He grabbed my arm as he saw them taking it off the wall. I could feel him shaking. I’m so happy for him. It’s been a rough week as he had off and on car trouble. We are happy he will think back on this week with joy.

What a great story! So happy for “your” artist and your dockview!
Congratulations are in order to your resident artist. What an amazing honor at the end of a tough week.
This is such a sweet post. I could feel his excitement through your description.
Congratulations to Keith. His painting is lovely. Your words about this experience, for him and for you, are lovely as well. So glad it was such a memorable time.
Congratulations to Keith for the recognition for his painting. And congrats to you for getting to be part of it.
Describing the moments of them taking it off the wall and his shaking created the sense of excitement and anticipation, especially after the hardships of the week. There are some fabulous North Georgia artists – I love going there to visit the places that display their works. I’m thrilled that he won, and those are some beautiful flowers.

Well, how fun is this? What an honor to host Keith in your home, and to get to be with him when he won the Parish President’s award. Thanks for his website too. I enjoyed perusing. I especially like his landscapes. You are right, he will always look back on this week with joy.

What a glorious Slice – the flowers, the artist who loves his work, never expecting to be awarded. He is a good soul. The part where you could feel him shaking really got me, Margaret. As did that final photo – I am so glad for Keith!
Wow! How fun to get to “live through” this resident artist–and see his view of your backyard win a prize. Congrats to Keith and to you and your family.
Margaret, what an exciting slice! How sweet of him to bring you gorgeous flowers. I love the vase, too. Your description of his thrill at winning and that you could feel him shaking brought me there. Congratulations to Keith on his beautiful painting! Thank you for including photos and Keith’s website-such talent.
Margaret, I am late to responding although I read your slice earlier in the weekend. We GrandmaSat for the middle grand at my house. Then, the baby got pink eye and I am at her house now. I have a few minutes to read and comment before Lila wakes up. The flowers are lovely and so is Keith’s artwork. It was very generous of you and your husband to house him for the week.
