I’ve been writing small poems this month following Georgia Heard’s Permission to Write Small calendar of prompts. Today the prompt was “the meaning of your name”. I felt an acrostic poem form would be a good choice.

The meaning of my name “Margaret” is pearl. I’ve known this, but I didn’t know why until I did some quick research on pearls. Apparently, the Persian word for pearl is margarita, which is the source of the name Margaret.
Margaret is a pearl—
Alchemy of soft tissue
Restored over time with
Grit, becoming
Abiding beauty,
Resolving with genuine grace
Eternal gem
TurningMargaret Simon, draft

Margaret, your small poem is lovely and definitely defines you, especially with this line: “Resolving with genuine grace”. May you continue to be proud of your name. Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks, Carol. Trying to walk in grace as so much around me is changing.
I like your pearl 💎 gem of a poem Margaret, having grit, grace, and beauty, thanks!
You picked the perfect form for this prompt. I love how you used the word “alchemy”!
Thanks. I heard it on The Slowdown and had to use it!
lovely. I like restored over time with grit. That’s a goal everyone should have.
One of my many nicknames growing up was Grit. I like that word, but I didn’t like it as a nickname.
Oh, I’m a fan of “Restored over time with/Grit” as well – with grace and beauty and softness, too, in the magical mix. Lovely name and poem, Margaret – thanks for sharing!
Margaret, great form for this prompt! You are indeed a pearl.
Margaret, the beauty and the grit – the soft, tender way and the resilience of strength – that is what I know about you!!! Love the way you did this
Beautiful acrostic! My favorite phrase is becoming/ Abiding beauty. Makes me wonder about the meaning of my name.
A pearl of a poem, Margaret. Thank you for sharing!
A great choice of form and beautiful phrases to reflect who you are – a pearl. Thank you for sharing this. (I finally pulled up the prompt calendar you’ve been following.)
Oh I love your poem, Margaret. Every word is perfect. I love “Alchemy of soft tissue”. and “Eternal gem Turning.” Just lovely.
This is so great, Margaret. I love the grit, but I also love that you can appreciate yourself and share some self-love. We ALL need to be able to do that more. Thanks for sharing!
Margaret, I love the movement in this poem– ending with “turning” is perfect. Like everyone, you are a work in progress, and it’s the turning, together with the grit, that creates the alchemy. Hooray for pearls!
