Some of my Inkling writing group friends have been inspired to write poems using Wordle guesses. I’ve tried a few times, but as a person who plays Wordle infrequently and always starts with the same word, the practice didn’t appeal to me.
Mary Lee’s rule is when she guesses in three words, she writes a haiku. Yesterday I got it in three tries. I wrote the words down, pearl, rival, and drill, and went about my day.
Newly retired, I’ve found the mornings to be a sanctuary. I take a walk with my dog, fix a pot of oatmeal, and eat on my back deck watching birds. Oh, the retirement life!
At the feeder, I get a variety of birds. (Tufted titmouse, chickadee, cardinal) The thing about using Wordle words forces a metaphor that may or may not work. I was finally pleased with this one, so I am sharing today. Have you tried writing Wordle poems?
A pearl of titmouse
rivals chipper chickadee
early morning drill
Margaret Simon, draft

Perfection! I love that you chose a “poetic” first word and found such a lovely metaphor.
Here’s to the slow routines of retirement!
Pearl of titmouse! Such an exquisite description — I hope those slow morning walks and deck time continue to inspire, Margaret. And I’m so delighted to have won a copy of your new collection!
I have to comment on that photo! Certainly a “pearl of a titmouse.” I’ve never tried a Wordle poem, but it might be something to stive for.
Congratulations on your retirement, Mary Lee! A pearl of titmouse made me smile. So lovely!
Margaret! So sorry. I was just looking at Mary Lee’s post too. : /
Adorable photo, charming poem! Love your morning routine. 🙂
Love the poem AND the photo! Haven’t played Wordle…and probably won’t start now!
Hooray for Wordle poems! I write one most days and sometimes they work…sometimes they don’t ! I’m so glad you’re enjoying your retirement and those morning moments with the birds. I love your “pearl of titmouse”–such cute birds!
Nice work, Margaret! That is a real pearl of a titmouse. I’ve never tried to write a Wordle poem– seems hard! I like to do Octordle before bed…just looked at the most recent word choices and yipes.
I need to try this, play Wordle every day, but forget to write down the words. Your “try” is great, Margaret, love the “drill”!
Oh, that retirement life does sound good. I’m working and enjoy my job. However, the feeling of never being able to completely keep up is constant. It makes me feel tired. I love the “pearl of a titmouse.” What an exquisite way to begin a haiku. Well done!
Margaret, I love pearl of a titmouse, chipper chickadee with the ch sounds, and the short /i/ rhymes in four words. I love to watch birds, too, and the songs of the cardinals fill me with joy. My chickadees are “chipper,” too. Our cats love to watch the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks through the window. I’m glad you are enjoying your retirement and being inspired on your walks with your puppy. Thank you.

Margaret, congratulations on being retired. How wonderful. I am sorry I missed that this was a new chapter for you. Mornings are a sanctuary and just time to be. I love the idea of using Wordle words to write a poem.
That’s a pearl of a poem Margaret—lovely and the pics too, thanks for all the joy here!
Margaret, I love this! I haven’t tried a Wordle poem/haiku, but I think I’ll have to. I always start with the same two words, so maybe I’d use my later guesses from Quordle or Octordle. That pearl of titmouse is wonderful!
Ah, Margaret, this poem is a pearl to rival others — not the same old drill. 🙂
Brava!
I keep meaning to try some Wordle poems. I play it daily but never remember to tinker with it as a poetry form/bit of inspiration.
I have never even heard of poems from Wordle words. What fun! I’ll give it a try now. I love your sweet poem with the contrast of the titmouse and chickadee. I’m glad you are enjoying the sanctuary of mornings.
