We haven’t had snow here in south Louisiana, but today on my walk I found a wooly glove missing its owner and these glasses that look like they were intentionally set into the oak tree root. Should I start collecting these items for the possibility of a snowman? Does the tree root have eyes to see? Some deep wisdom?
Having spent my weekend at a picture book writing retreat, everything becomes a possible idea for writing. Today, join me with your imagination and write a small poem in the comments.
I’m sharing a Zeno (8, 4, 2, 1, 4, 2, 1, 4, 2, 1 syllable count and the one syllable words rhyme) I wrote a few years ago that I’ve revised to go with this photo.
Enchanted
I follow the enchanted path
leading me to
unknown
trails.
I trust, listen
as wisdom
hails
mirrors and sounds
of charmed
tales.

Your enchanting zeno and the hidden glasses inspired me to try a zeno, too.
If a tree could see with its leaves
would it dream each
night of
blue,
or muse over
sparkling
dew,
reflecting each
brilliant
hue?

Thanks for trying the form! I like that you considered an if question. That gives a new perspective to our view.
Trees spend so much time looking at the sky it makes sense they would dream of blue.
What fun to find lost treasures. the glasses certainly make this forest enchanted.
here’s my little ditty. an adapted zeno. just for fun.
Be careful where you’re walking please
I need to see
the forest
trees
and animals
insects
and bees
that wander through
the forests
free.
Diane, Kudos for trying the Zeno form, more challenging that it appears. Your rhymes are fun! And I love the voice of the first line.
I like that the glasses inspired “seeing” and perhaps close observation.
Your glasses hiding in the zeno are like a tiny rainbow waiting for sunlight to set them free. Lovely poem
Glasses left behind by a resting walker? Love the photo!
Great Photo and Zeno, Margaret. I love the enchanted path which I think influenced my response. The glasses were interesting, but the giant’s foot I saw was also intriguing.

Sorry. That didn’t format correctly.
