Digital Learning is an ongoing process for me. I enjoy “playing” with digital images. To make the logo above, I used an app called SketchClub. The original image was available for reuse by Ghetu Daniel on Flickr. I added the text on SketchClub and used PowerPoint to make it into a circle shape. If you make a blog post about Digital Literacy, you may use the logo and link back to this weekly blog round-up.
This week my students are continuing their blogging practice for the Slice of Life Challenge. I took a suggestion from Holly Mueller about writing memoir. She used a resource that was not available at our school library, so I used the Scholastic website. They have many different writing lessons that utilize authors as well as have a wealth of student models. For memoir writing, I printed out a few of the student samples. My students worked together to read a model. I asked them to notice good writing and highlight it. They could highlight examples of metaphor, imagery, a good hook, or strong vocabulary. After we shared our results, the students set out to write their own memoirs. I was pleased with how easily the writing came for some of them. The sample writings spurred them into their own ideas. This lesson was a valuable use of online resources.
How are you using online resources in your lessons?
