When I saw this photo from Ralph on Facebook, I knew I had to write about it. And yesterday, April 17th was National Haiku Day, and I forgot, so here’s a quick haiku fo honor Mama Woodpecker.
Knocking down walls
wood thin, cleaning out closets
woodpecker nesting–Margaret Simon, (c) 2018

Mama Woodpecker
poem By Jessica Bigi
I drum out my heartbeats
howling out my home
in the hollow of a tree
my heart the hollow of an oak
it’s sporting green leave
softly nesting my hatchlings
lullabies’ of the spring rains
patters of little heartbeats
in the hollow of a tree
Cleaning out closets – so clever! That made me smile. 🙂
