In the midst of the COVID-19 quarantine, there are some beautiful moments. My daughters had come into town for the weekend. Directives from CDC advised that my mother-in-law, who is elderly and immune compromised, should not be in closed quarters with anyone, so we all met at City Park for a Sunday morning stroll.
The ducks were busy in the pond. Lots of fluffy yellow ducklings to watch.

The weather was sunny and warm, close to 80 degrees. The shade was gloriously pleasant.

Baby Thomas, 6 months, took a little snooze in the sun. Then we sat under a grove of oak trees where Thomas learned about grass and leaves, his first experience with nature.
Nature consoles us. Walking with family is something we rarely do. I hope you are finding ways to spend more time outside.
Take a walk.
Crumple leaves in your hand.
Listen to the birds.
Keep calm.
Sounds like a great outing and a great future plan. The quiet and calm is quite nice during this time. Enjoy!
Sounds like a wonderful way to spend time with family. Be well!
I love this. I got a sense of calm just reading your post. Unfortunately for me in IL- we are being SNOWED ON right now, and cannot go outside. At least I don’t have to drive in the snow 🙂
Oh my! Snow? I’m sure you are ready for spring. I hope it comes soon.
Beautiful
There is nothing quite like nature and natural beauty to calm us down and relieve tension. So glad you had a chance to get together as a family outside.
Just lovely. I do love the snow, but I am eager for it to melt so that I can get out on my favorite hiking paths. Of course after the snow melt, there is the mud, so I may have to stick to paved paths for a bit. But nature does console.
Mmm… your weather makes me jealous – and look at those ducklings! Also, my Thomas – who is now 11 – had both Sophie the giraffe and that green soother, so pictures of your Thomas bring back memories. Sigh…
Ah, City Park! It must have been glorious.
Your pics made me think of the book Make Way for Ducklings. Your words so resonate with me- “Nature consoles us. Walking with family is something we rarely do. I hope you are finding ways to spend more time outside.” Today during an afternoon walk with my family, I was thinking of this point exactly. Stay safe and enjoy your family strolls.
Lovely. Just feeling the sunshine is a special magic.
“Nature consoles us.”
A perfect line …
Kevin
Nature has a way of centering us providing us respite that we so much need right now.
Beautiful slice! I’ve been contemplating the gifts in the midst of this crisis. Sounds like this is a good example of one.
It seems we are all soothed by nature! My son and his community just got the order to “shelter in place,” meaning they shouldn’t be out in parks or in the neighborhood. Luckily they have a nice back yard where my grandsons can run and explore! Thanks for sharing the beauty of the outdoors and family!
Ah, nature is so wonderful, Your family outing sounds so lovely, Margaret. May your days be filled with beauty.
Those short simple lines at the end of your post slow things down so nicely to match the peace you describe. It’s important to look for the silver linings in these dark days. Thanks for sharing one of yours.
“Take a walk . . . keep calm.” I love the pic of Thomas snoozing with upside-down Sophie.
