I have a confession to make. I forgot to post this today. When I started this weekly prompt, I decided to do it on Thursdays because that’s the day Laura Purdie Salas would post her 15 Words or Less prompt. Thursdays felt right.
In this time of every-day-is-just-like-the-last, I forgot it was Thursday. The good news is my caterpillar has started to pupate. This monarch caterpillar was hanging on to a milkweed plant I bought last weekend. When I found the little thing, I put the whole plant into the butterfly net. Yesterday I couldn’t find the caterpillar. I looked and looked and finally saw that it was curled up under a leaf.

Please write a small poem (15 words or so) in the comments. Support other writers by commenting on their poems. I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling a definite kinship with this caterpillar.

I will emerge

I’m cocooning at home
Cocooning at home is the safest place to be. Thanks for responding today. Poetry helps.
My son Thomas wrote a haiku:
It’s easy to hide
but sometimes you have to face
metamorphosis
Oh my! That caught me by surprise. Such a wise haiku!
I was surprised, too! He said, “Mom, you know I liked poetry when we did it in school.” May have to give him the poetry month challenge – or send him here on Thursdays. 🙂
Amanda, has he watched any of my videos? I’d love to see if he would respond to them. On my YouTube channel.
I’ll try to send him there today. He’s been very, um, reluctant to follow my suggestions. This poem happened when neither of us could sleep & he was very pleased with it. I’ll try to build on that today… He *did* read some of your book with me & loved writing from your poetry, so that might motivate him!
Such a rich haiku! Well done, Thomas!
Perfect. Just perfect! What wisdom

caterpillar pauses

miracle pending
Love the repeated p sound. Pauses pupa pending.
Like Margaret, I noticed the p sounds – for me that emphasizes the sense of stuttering starts. Only afterward did I notice the title. The title has my mind going in many ways. I’m not *publishing* any poetry this month (too nervous!) but I think I may need to steal the title for today’s notebook poem.
Margaret, thanks so much for continuing to do this along with everything else you have going. I love the positivity in your poem– the hope for renewal.
Each tiny nibble
each little bite
every single mouthful
every day — every night
is what I’m digesting
fueling, storing
for the someday
I take flight
The repetition of each and every take us on that bite by bite journey.
