This year’s progressive poem started out recognizing kindness and is currently bouncing off to the playground where we have met a new character. Here’s the progress so far:
I’m a case of kindness – come and catch me if you can!
Easily contagious – sharing smiles is my plan.I’ll spread my joy both far and wide,
As a force of Nature I’ll be undenied.Words like, “how can I help?” will bloom in the street.
A new girl alone on the playground – let’s meet, let’s meet!We can jump-skip together in a double-dutch round.
Denise at Dare to Care offered these line choices:
Over, under, jump and wonder, touch the ground
OR
But she was shy when greeted; she didn’t make a sound.
I am attracted to the action in the first line, so I have selected it.
2021 Kidlit Progressive Poem Day 9
Over, under, jump and wonder, touch the ground.
I am happy that I get to begin a new stanza, but since this poem has become a rhyming poem, I don’t want to burden it with a difficult word to rhyme. I also need to consider the theme thus far, kindness and friendship.
I love the idea of a friendship blooming. Chloe was around when I was trying to create the line choices, so I let her write one of them. I won’t tell you which one, though. My friend and critique partner, Molly Hogan, gets to choose from these two lines:
Friends can be found when you open a door.
Or
A never-ending sign connects hand to hand.

Ooh, the poem is growing into such a happy poem, the double dutch. I can’t wait to see what Molly will choose. I know which one I like.
Things are progressing in such a fantastic way, and I love the themes that are being developed!
I love your chosen line, it has a nice flow/rhythm and the details are fun and authentic. And your offerings for Molly, well done, Margaret. I am happily watching this new stanza unfold!
So glad to see another character entering the poem, ready for double dutch jumping. And two great choices for Molly!
I wish I had the energy (and the spring) of those silhouette figures, and the characters in our poem. Loving the kindness and joy that is growing line by line.
This poem is so fun! Full of life and love. Perfect! And I hope Chloe’s gets picked!!
Dear Margaret,
I’m rooting for your Chloe’s too, Margaret. Such a treat to bring her suggestion into it. And now excited for Molly’s turn of two phrases.
Jan
Margaret, I am delighted to see that Chloe has a voice in our Progressive Poem. It is especially wonderful to have a poem dealing with the theme of kindness, something that the world needs to deal with. Yours and Chloe’s choices are launching us into a new stanza so I am eager to see what Molly chooses.
Thank you, Margaret, for hosting this sweet challenge. It’s fun to be a part of it. I love yours and Chloe’s offerings here. Looking forward to see what the next adventure is…
I love watching this poem grow…especially a poem about kindness. How wonderful that Chloe got to be part of the process. You are a super teacher.
[…] turn to choose a line from two gifted to her by Denise Krebs. You may read her lines here on her blog, Reflections on the Teche. I’m excited to provide the 29th and penultimate line on Thursday, April 29th. I hope you’ll […]
I like your choice & that you had Chloe helping you craft those next choices. The poem is going to be a special story of kindness for children. Thanks, Margaret! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
So great! Way to go to you and Chloe!

A friendship blooming—A poem blooming. Seems like a really good theme for this year as people (in general, not PF people) are sometimes having to learn how to reconnect.
I wonder what will happen next? Glad Chloe got to play!
These are so much fun – and I think you made the best choice!
I love the playfulness and joy of this poem so far! You and Chloe gave Molly two terrific lines to choose from.
Wow, I had some catching up to do this week! I’m glad the kid with the case of kindness is spreading it around–there’s a virus we all want to see replicate. Double-dutch seems to require a third player…and I’m wondering if we might see an incident of upstanding in the poem. Where will Molly take it?
Love it!
Wonderful, Margaret! I love seeing the progress so far!
Loved the line you chose. Having a delightful Sunday catching up with the progressive poem. Both lines offered by you and your poem-loving partner, Chloe, are perfect. On to see what was chosen!
I like the visual image both lines draw and tie in with the bonding of friends!
Nice to see how the poem is coming together. I think both of your options are quite strong!
Love your (considerate) thought process re. new lines expressed, Margaret. And than you so much for coordinating the whole progressive adventure! Off to see which of your two strong contenders continues the poem…
I’m late to the party and just reading through everyone’s poem contributions so far. It’s developing into such a happy piece. It’s so interesting to see the direction the poem takes after each two-line offering. 🙂
