This week’s photo comes from California photographer/ teacher Kim Douillard. I couldn’t resist this not-so-cuddly bear-of-stones. She took the photo on the campus of UC San Diego, marked with the hashtag Stuart Collection (click here to see a size reference).
I hope you enjoy musing on this photo. I’ll be back later with a poem. Post a small poem in the comments and encourage other writers with responses. Thanks for stopping by.
A Fib Poem (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8)
Bear
Margaret Simon, draft
your
boulder.
Be bolder
in your stone-cold suit.
Hold a steady shoulder for me.
the stone roses are always in bloom, cheers
bear-of-stones
bear-of-rocks
bear-of-boulders
how hard was it to bear
the heavy building
of your body?
Thanks, Margaret, and thanks for the photo, Kim!
Love ❤️ all the B’s and humor!
Love bear-of-boulders… use of “hard”… fun question!
Thanks for being first in line to write today. I love all the hyphenated bears. I’m using this one to inspire my students.
I liked the truth inside your small poem, Heidi.
Delightful and wonderful, thanks Margaret, filled me with smiles!
Bear or bird
Bird or bear
Must be
Enchantingly
Bigger-than-life

Michelle Kogan draft
Bigger than life for sure!
I, too, like bigger than life.
The bear
is sitting bear,
a person from a
bearious culture,
with such artwork
it’s magnificent,
inspiring.
Pray it doesn’t fall,
in such perfect shape,
dangerous but cuuuuuute
just like animals and life.
Don’t underestimate such things.
Avalyn, 3rd grade
Love this… yes, I wonder what keeps his ears on?
Loaf-like arms
Ears like buns
Crusty
Heavy
Whole Wheat Bear
Huge but
Huggable
“Huge but huggable” is spot on!
My granddaughters would love to see this huge bear, Karen. Love the baking twist on this sculpture, Karen.
Avalyn, dangerous but cuuuuuute/just like animals and life sounds like an adult thought, Great last line.
Stone Carver’s Dream
stone bear
sat on a wall
with his oversized tummy
but unlike Humpty Dumpty
did not have a great fall
