I am a big fan of poet Laura Purdie Salas. Every Thursday she posts an image and invites her readers to write a poem in 15 words or less. I love this challenge. Her post yesterday reminded me of sparklers. I left the computer, made coffee, and these words came into my head. Then last night’s Good2Great chat (#G2Great) was about Dreaming Big. This is what my Big Dream is all about: lighting that fire of passion in my students.
Gorgeous, and like so many, poems show what’s truth.
YES! What a wonderful reminder for us educators to always seek to light that sparkler, and to nurture it and keep it burning brightly.
Absolutely! What a great challenge you shared as well. Have a spectacular weekend, Margaret!
Yes! And you are always at the ready with a flame. Brilliant. 🙂
Margaret, this is so inspiring and so YOU! When teachers feel that way about their students, when people feel that way about children in general, a child in such a person’s sphere can’t help but sparkle.
I love this, Margaret! It’s such a joy to see that inner sparkler begin to glimmer. I’m going to print it and post it by my desk!
I love this! First, I didn’t know about the Thursday challenge. I tell you what…..EVERY Poetry Friday I learn something wonderful and new from friends. And, the idea of sparklers to be lit. Yes, that’s it….that’s it exactly. I may need to make a poster of this for my office door. Thank you Margaret for the spark that you are to your students — me included.
Fabulous. I love that it sparks more than a fire does. A sparkler is perfect.
Love it. Adults, do, too! 🙂
I’m so glad you shared this, Margaret. It’s rather devastating in its clarity and urgency! Plus it’s beautiful. And thanks for the 15WOL shoutout:>)
Beautiful image, Margaret – I immediately thought of my 24-year-old-teacher-daughter, starting her third year as a third-grade teacher. It’s been amazing to “see” her finding that hidden sparkler in her kids. Happy Fall!
Aw, that’s great, Margaret! What a beautiful thing to see.
