When I consider
feathers on a mourning dove
I know loveWhen I consider
chimes ring for an evening breeze
I know loveWhen I consider
roses he bought just-because
I know loveWhen I consider
pages that breathe a true life
I know loveWhen I consider small things
I am whole & here–Margaret Simon
(Haiku sonnet on the opening line of Shakespeare’s Sonnet XV)
Beauty, as always, in your words. I’m so glad and we are so fortunate that you work with children.
Margaret, you certainly brought a peaceful tone to the opening of my day. These lines resonate with me: “When I consider
pages that breathe a true life” and of course the ending. It is a great feeling to be comforted by poetry during a week of upheaval.
Your poem is a windchime, Margaret. Thank you! xo
Lovely poem, Margaret! We especially needed a dose of love and beauty this week. Thank you.
I, too, have been looking for those small things to keep me grounded. I agree with Irene’s comment, Margaret. Just lovely.
Love and poetry give hope. Essential.
What a beautiful sentiment. We cannot change the world, but we can do our part to fill our small corner of it with love.
“whole and here”, a celebration of a poem, Margaret. It’s lovely to see what you did with your ‘haiku sonnet’!
Sublime. Love is found in simple acts that say profound things.
Love the haiku sonnet, and the sentiments. When I touch someone’s heart in what I read, I know love.
So beautiful. Thank you! Ruth, thereisnosuchthingasagodforsakentown.blogspot.com
Trust you to come forth with something so inspirational and do-able. Thanks, Margaret!
Lovely, especially the line: “pages that breathe a true life”.
When the big picture is too scary to look at…look small. Good advice.
I tend to withdraw into my own little shell. I know I’ll need to come out at some point, but not yet.
As others have mentioned, this is so peaceful and inspirational…just what we need.
Simply gorgeous, Margaret. Your words are so peaceful and reassuring.
