It’s hump day, or is it bump day? Literally. Driving down the highway on my way from school A to school B, I saw a big metal cylinder in my lane. There was nowhere to swerve, so I tried to straddle it. Ka-Bump! A loud bump! And an explicative from me. I took the next exit off the highway which happened to be near the dealership. I decided to play it safe and stop.
There were no visible signs of damage, so the service director told me to come back after school, and they would lift up my vehicle. I drive a Prius. This car is very close to the ground. When they lifted my car, they found the exhaust pipe was damaged. An hour later, after a long talk with the insurance company, I was driving home in a Yukon, the exact opposite of a Prius.
The rental agent explained some things about this huge vehicle. “When you get close to an object, the seat vibrates.” Sure enough as I was backing out, the seat buzzed my behind. Kinda shocking. And what was I supposed to do? Luckily, it didn’t buzz again until I was pulling into my carport. I guess I’ll learn how to park this gargantuan thing without hitting anything.
I don’t advise driving over things in the road, but if you do hit something, it’s not so bad when you get an upgrade. I feel like I should go around town and pick some people up to carpool. I wonder if anyone needs to move furniture this weekend. Give me a call.
I’m glad you’re ok and that your car is getting fixed. That’s quite a big change. Enjoy your new car!
This time of year we battle pot holes! Thank goodness all went well.
I love the way you ended your post. Your feelings would be mine. Hmm what should I do with this huge car? Time to cruise around and fill it up! Maybe not with furniture but with people! Perhaps there’s a happy hour in sight for you today.
The ending made me chuckle–that’s putting a positive spin on a situation!
Ha! I laughed through this (except for the hitting the cylinder part)…..Prius to Yukon. I drive a Prius as well. Quite an upgrade….vibrating seats?! Wow. Who knew.
Love your “silver lining” attitude! That makes all of life’s little bumps live-able (laugh-able?)
Glad you’re okay. You mad me laugh thinking about using the Yukon this weekend!
Oh my goodness – from the title playing on figurative language to the ending “Give me a call”, you’ve created a funny and enjoyable post out of an annoying situation. These kinds of posts are why we challenge ourselves to write every day. Thanks for the chuckle this morning!
I love the way you ended this, Margaret – somehow I can’t imagine you driving that Yukon!
I love this, you caused me to have a laugh. I drive a Yukon & find the safety features are both annoying and wonderful. Sometimes that annoying seat vibration helps avoid an accident. Parking may be a prob.
The ending made me laugh. Maybe you can write about the difference between the two cars.
Glad you are OK and your car is being repaired. Driving a strange car always seems to pose some challenges, but this seems really different! I’m having trouble imagining you in that boat!
While this is not funny that this happened to you, how you explained it was to me. I would have jumped if I felt that vibration and I certainly would not have been able to drive home in a huge vehicle.
Excellent to make some fun out of your bump in the road. I hit something once and ended up having to buy four new tires. Replacing one just wouldn’t work. I’m glad you’re okay. I didn’t know about the vibrations. Guess it’s a good idea!
While this was not a funny thing, the ending made me chuckle. Glad you are ok and the Prius will survive!
I love the incongruity of having a hunk of a car as a stand in for your efficient one during repair. I can see you picking up friends and lugging some furniture around just to make the car worth it! Glad everything worked out okay.

We had a Suburban when the boys were young and I always felt like I was driving a tank! I love my Golf, but I do miss being up high and having a great view. Glad the damage was minor.
