Leigh Anne Eck is a dedicated Slicer who sent me (and all Slicers) an invitation to her Spring Fling, a virtual party for sharing ideas for self-care. At the Two Writing Teachers Slice of Life Challenge, we are all teachers. We are all in this weird space of Coronavirus quarantine, fumbling around with how to continue to be who we are without face to face connection with our students. A virtual party is just what we need.

My Three Self-Care Practices:
- Daily Walks with Spring Flowers: The weather has been perfect for a daily walk. Flowers are blooming and fragrant, wisteria, amaryllis, fruit trees, and sweet olive.

2. Yoga: Did you know that Down Dog app is free to teachers until July 1? I downloaded it and did a 15 minute practice. I plan to make this a part of my daily routine. (If I can get Fancy kitty off my mat)

3. Facetime with my Grandbabies: Getting daily texts with pictures and video as well as FaceTime with my two grandboys is a joy that nurtures me. As every day changes our directives for sheltering, I touch base with my daughters. The boys continue to grow and do new things. Thomas, 6 months, is eating solid food. Leo at 15 months is learning a new word each day.

Thanks for coming to the party. You can add your post to Leigh Anne’s post here. How are you practicing self-care?
What a great addition to the party, Margaret! I’ve also really enjoyed face-timing with friends and family. I’m looking forward to joining the party — I need to start planning my contributions.
I am looking forward to joining the party later in the week. What is it about cats and yoga mats?? Mine just love my yoga mat! I often leave it out after I finish so that they can enjoy a nap. What beautiful flowers! And Facetiming grandbabies is certainly some good self-care.
Great suggestions! I will have to join this party!
Thanks for sharing your tips and explaining how Leigh Ann’s invite works. I may head over there. Walks to see flowers is on my list too. Your 3 things show how you care about nature, keeping your inner peace and best of all, connecting with family!! What a cutie!!
Love this idea of focusing on self care. FaceTime and walks have helped, but I need to add yoga to my routine. Thank you for the beautiful pics.
Oh, how could I have left FaceTime with my grand boys off my list? It’s a daily joy! The wisteria pic is springtime perfection. I RSVP’d today too!
Oh, Margaret! I love your ideas. I’m working on getting my non-apple family on Zoom so we can see face to face. And keep sharing your flower pictures–we’re not quite there in Iowa!
Thank you for coming and sharing my invite. Your flower pictures are gorgeous! We are so far behind you. I took several walks last week, but it has been so cold and rainy. I am a fair-weather walker! Can you imagine having to be quarantined without technology? What a joy it must be to still see your boys! They are so darn cute and growing so fast! Take care, friend!
Margaret, this is what I like about our camaraderie-we all bring different pieces of joy to the party. Your flower walks certainly excite me to go outside and find the beauty of life. We do not have beautiful florals yet but they will come in due time. We engage in grandchildren conversations via Hangouts. Sierra even knows when to tell me when the connection goes wonky. It is my cue to switch gears so she can see us on our end.
This is the second time I’ve heard about the Down Dog app. Gonna go download it!
Your wisteria comes early! We have a month to go before it arrives. It is one of my absolute favorite things on Earth. I may need a daily wisteria walk when it does. Big secret: I have never tried yoga! May be a good time to experiment … takes me back to balance, which even now there’s so little of. All or nothing, right? And oh, my, is Thomas GROWING. I find all of your self-care ideas invigorating and at the same time, calming.
Wisteria as well as azaleas used to bloom in April. Now March. My babies are growing. I had FaceTime with Leo today, and he now recognizes me and gets so excited. Love!
Oh – I’m jealous of your wisteria. It’s beautiful! We still have snow on the ground. And I’ve just downloaded the Down Dog app – thanks for the recommendation. I’m delighted to see Fancy again, too. And your grandbabies are really growing! I can’t believe how big they are – words? already? wow! Thanks for these ideas – I don’t have grandbabies or flowers, but I do have walks & family. Maybe tomorrow I will join the party. 🙂
I am happy you joined the party. I love all the things people bring. Wow – the spring flower photo has fabulous colors.
