I follow teacher/writer/photographer Kim Douillard who lives in California. I envy her beach photos. Images of the beach take me away. They have the power to relax me. This photo brought me joy. One of my grandsons is particularly attracted to bubbles. If he is having a tough time, a single session of bubble time will soothe him. What is it about bubbles that is both fascinating and calming?

You reach out to touch
Margaret Simon, haiku draft 2022
knowing your touch will destroy
beauty in thin air.
How true. What is it about bubbles? When we are very young, it is the magic of “here, then gone”. When we are older, I wonder if they remind us of the fragility of “here, then gone” in so many other ways. Thank you for this beautiful photo and haiku!
Your poem reminds me of how fragile life is, Margaret. Lovely haiku!
I immediately saw a giant finger in the shape of that bubble, and it called to mind Michaelangelo’s creation painting. It’s a beautiful picture – full of curiosity, wonder, and something quite magical. Thanks for sharing it.
Reach out!
Together we’ll
make magic.
Together we’ll
find the way.
Love the optimism in this, Rose! Go for it!
Love the repetition of together. Gives me a hopeful feeling.
The word “together “ is everything in this
Rose, Good title for the prompt. Positivity – Affirmation – Togetherness
Rose, your “Reach out!” grabbed me and pairs well with the photo. Love this! Your “Together we’ll” technique reels me in. Magic and hope.
Love it, Margaret. Thanks for putting a haiku in my morning. 🙂
Here’s mine:
Dreams swell
and loom large
floating just beyond reach
how we love
their allure
Oh how dreams float just beyond reach.
Love the possibility of catching dreams, and also the reminder to dream big.
Karen, your poem helps me push beyond my comfort zone.
Just beyond our reach
dreams swell
Karen, I always love poems about dreams. I love how you chose your dreams to swell, loom and float! These lines “how we love / their allure” make me think.
Margaret, this photo is precious and so beautifully captured. Your words inspired me to write a small poem from paint chip colors (sea scheme, light sky blue, ocean tea, silver cloud, sea salt, sweet dreams)
sea scheme hues
bubble inside my heart
I reach for light sky blue
overlaying ocean teal waters
wondering if silver cloud bubbles burst
will my sea-salted sweet dreams remain?
Love the color scheme, Carol. Your last line reminds me of salted caramels!
Karen – Yum!
Carol, I adore “bubble inside my heart”! Love the voice! I see your colorful images and love your internal rhyme in “sea-salted sweet dreams”. I love your word choices in that last line and how the question makes the reader think.
Carol, I forgot to mention “sea-salted” made me think of caramels and taffy. When I was young, long before the casinos in NJ, my family always went to the NJ shore. Your poem reminded me of walking the board walk at dusk with all the fun activities. I can see the wooden bins that held the salted taffy that my mother loved. Thank you for your beautiful poem and childhood memories.
Karen – Yum!
Margaret, you are so right about bubbles being fascinating and calming. I still love bubbles. I remember my youngest daughter sometimes needing bubble time to soothe her, also. Both your poem and the photo are beautiful. Love “beauty in thin air” and how your poem makes me ponder. Waves sooth and relax me; I miss ocean waves. We haven’t been to the ocean since the summer of 2019; the summer before the pandemic. When I saw the photo, I heard waves. The waves, hand, bubble, and sunset brought me back to my childhood on the NJ shore and my children’s childhood on Cape Cod. Thank you for sharing your inspiration and joy and bringing me joy with the photo and all the poems. Here’s mine:

I love how you personified the sunset. Beautiful.
