Coddiwomple came up on Facebook as the word of the day from Writers Write. It means to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination. I took a coddiwomple through slices and gathered lines. I tried to put them into some sort of order that would make a poem.
I do not want to be a pencil.
I want to be a book,
corners creased, cover softened.
It would be full of white space,
held like a small silver envelope.Simple mindfulness at the breakfast table.
My nest needs to be wide
in a Jamun tree that bears fruit
This is the time to spread my wings.
The story continues…
You had me curious about coddiwomple, what an odd word! An artful gathering of lines. Perhaps the poem will continue too?
Oh nicely done, I recognise some of the lines there! An interesting way to try and blend them together towards that vague destination…!
So lovely! And what a wonderful back story for how this poem came to be. I might have to try this… (Also, I don’t think I’ve heard the word coddiwomple since I was a child. I think I just assumed it was yet another word only Southern people of my grandmother’s generation used!)
How appropriate that early in this challenge I learned the word “brumation” over at Alice Nine’s blog and now, near the end, “coddiwomple”. I feel a strong need to use this word today. I think my family is going to be very surprised. Also, I enjoyed your coddiwomple through the slices!
Oh I hope the story continues! I have never heard of the word coddiwomple before. And what you did – walking through slices with a purpose but not a clear destination – is the perfect example of what this word really means. And I LOVE the flowers.
What an interesting word! And your journey picking up lines through slices fits the definition perfectly. Beautiful – and I’m anxious for the next leg of the journey.
Coddiwomple! What a fabulous word! I love your idea of wandering through slices and creating this lovely poem.
