This is the first Thursday of the month, so the Spiritual Journey gathering is happening at Dori’s site today around the topic Balance.
Balance is a levitated word
held between my fingers
with no space for doubt.Balance doesn’t lean or lose;
it’s always in control.
Gravity is its guide.Balance grows on solid ground,
strengthens while it weighs nothing,
suspension in space and time.So how is it, then, that balance
eludes the seeker? Here for a second,
then gone, out of reach. We request balance in our lives
of diet
of things-to-do lists
of spinning plates. But balance is only of God,
of true peace
of kindness
of mercy.Balance can not be achieved alone.

What an insightful post. This is so true: “But balance is only of God,… Balance can not be achieved alone.” Much to ponder here.
Your first line is really evocative: “Balance is a levitated word.” I nearly fell out of several yoga poses last night, so I was really taken by your thoughts about the ways in which balance eludes those who seek it.
Yoga is a practice that constantly reminds me that I am off balance. And that you I am always seeking it. Thanks for your comments.
Thank you, Margaret. With so much imbalance surrounding us, it is good to be reminded that balance is truly of God. When my children were young, I would pray, asking God to get in the life scales with me and balance my parenting skills. He did. My grown children are testament to that.
Knowing that the Lord is our foundation is so comforting even in the case of lost balance, Margaret. I am so glad that we have a community of believers that lifts each other up when the challenges come and celebrates the joys too. “Balance cannot be achieved alone,” is a beautiful thought for the end of spiritual poem.
I love that first stanza, and I agree that balance is elusive. Beautiful, reflective poem!
Always thoughtful. Thanks.
Only of God…and there is peace, kindness, and mercy in that.
Thank you for your thoughts on balance, Margaret. What a lovely poem! xo
This is a lovely framing of balance, Margaret. It is something we all seek and can find within ourselves.
I’ve recently learned and appreciated more how balance can be fickle and elusive. Some days it’s there; others, not so much. My yoga teacher always acknowledges this which helps me have patience with my wobbling ankles. I loved the last line–it felt right.
I love your balance poem! Ruth, thereisnosuchthingasagodforsakentown.blogspot.com
