Day 10: Pick a one-line song lyric to serve as an epigraph to your poem. Then, write the poem to accompany it. The poem need not be directly related to the song.
…my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence.
—Paul Simon
In silence, our poems liveIn sharing, our poems grow.
BrooklynBatting at home place
Racing base to base
Outfield players catching pop-ups
“Out” yells the umpire when the batter has three strikes
Keeping your eye on the ball
Letting the time run from you
Yelling coming from the bleachers
Never getting defeated
KaylieKindling the fire
Ablaze in the midnight sky
Yawns bounce with the light breeze
Locusts chirping
In a sweet melody
Entrancing

Thanks for sharing ALL of it. Poetry is so cool. 🙂 I love seeing the many ways poetry spreads its wings!
Your students have a great mentor in you. These poems are incredible! Check out the book Silver Seeds for some fun acrostics.
Thanks for the book recommendation. I realized this morning the only model I had was my own.

Thanks for posting Margaret! I LOVE IT! 🙂
I love your writing prompt idea. I used to do something similar with song lyrics to get my students writing. And thanks for sharing your students’ writing. It’s always wonderful to read new writers!
