Dear Spring Break,
I am celebrating your arrival today.
You have entered my life like a soothing breeze.
When the birds call, I will be here to listen.
I will take long walks with Charlie. (First sight of the leash, and he is ready to go!)
I promise to read a book in your honor
and share it with my students when we return.
I hope you will invite me outside to explore.
I’d love to have lunch with a friend.
I promise to practice my ukulele, cook dinner more than once, and crochet in prayerful meditation.
But most of all, I promise to be grateful for every quiet moment you give me because I know that April and May are slippery slopes to summer.
Thanks for coming, spring break, you are a welcomed guest.
With love,
Margaret
I borrowed this writing idea from Michelle Haseltine at One Grateful Teacher.
A letter to Spring Break – great idea. I love this line “April and May are slippery slopes to summer” and “When the birds call, I will be here to listen” and pretty much all the sentiments in here. Our “March Break” (in Canada we don’t even pretend it’s spring – it’s one of my American tells when I slip up) is over & I am already wishing for quiet again. May you find the quiet that this letter embraces! (And may you share any good books you discover. I’ve already had many great recommendations from slicers this month!)
What a lovely poem, just gives the real feel of spring being in the air and that sense of promise and anticipation and….warmth..!
This is a delightful letter. We just began spring break as well, and you provide great reminders of what I can focus on!
Enjoy your time off. I hope it’s everything you hope and more. I love your “April and May are slippery slopes to summer” …so true in a teacher’s life! 🙂
You say hello, and I day goodbye. Trying to get my mind focused back on school these next two days. Enjoy your time off and your quiet time. I am sure a lot of writing will be done also!
You can also send some of that sunshine my way too – rain all week!
I didn’t include writing in my letter. How could I forget? That’s what I’m most looking forward to.
I love this idea and your letter, Margaret. I’m more than a little jealous, though. Our spring break is three weeks away and there is plenty of snow left in my yard. On the other hand, the birds are singing this morning!
It’s spring break here too! I hope you have a wonderful week of all that list and more, Margaret. Love the idea of a letter!
Slippery slopes to summer—oh, how true those words are! I feel like I too will feel the forward momentum in the final weeks pulling me far to quickly!
A soothing breeze… Spring Break comes at the perfect time to offer that. To relax and rest- after rounds of testing… to gain strength for the last round of testing and the rest of the slippery slope to summer. I am in the middle of my break, one more full week!
I love the idea of writing a letter to Spring Break. My break also starts today, and I have much the same plans as you have. Enjoy your time off!
I love the letter- it really captures your hopes for the week! I hope you enjoy it all!
Cute! I’m starting my break today too, so I just had to click when I saw your teaser, and I’m so glad I did! I especially loved the line, “You have entered my life like a soothing breeze.” You captured the peaceful relief perfectly, and I also enjoyed reading all the joys you hope to include in your break time!
I actually sent this to my students, and I hope some will read and be invited to write their own! 🙂
I love your blue sky pic. I hope your break provides many skies just like that one. Enjoy every precious moment. I love your plans, simple things that will lead to true relaxation during this week with your welcomed guest.
Beautiful! I love this idea of a letter to spring break. It’s like a promise to yourself. Enjoy your break!
Margaret,
What a lovely letter to Spring Break!
We are looking forward to tapping our maples and chill out. On a second thought, we do not want to chill out, we rather go out and enjoy the nature or stay inside read books and play Skyrim.
Best wishes.

Lovely! I don’t have spring break yet, but I have similar things on my to do list. My ukelele is on the couch waiting. I wish you a lovely break. 🙂
This is a beautiful gratitude poem, Margaret. I hope you are enjoying your Spring Break.
